What are the types of prevention?

A

Primary-prevent disease or injury before it ever occurs (ex: immunizations)

Secondary-detect and reduce the impact of a disease or injury that has already occurred (ex: mammogram screening, cervical cancer screening, etc.)

Tertiary- improve care to avoid later complications and rehabilitation to optimize function. (Ex: checking hgbA1C, foot care, dental care in those with diabetes).
