Health indicators Flashcards
High Resting pulse rate
CURRENT RISKS
Having a high blood pressure means that blood is being pumped around the body too quickly. This can result in sweating, shortness of breath and feeling weak.
FUTURE RISKS
Having a high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack as it pumps less efficiently and so blood pumped to the heart is reduced.
High BMI
CURRENT RISKS
Having a high BMI can result in having a High Blood Pressure as the fat is restricting blood flow. This makes it harder to do exercise so it becomes a vicious cycle.
FUTURE RISKS
Having a high BMI could develop into a cardiovascular disease as the fat is restricting blood flow to the heart
It could also lead to diabetes as a high bmi is usually generated by having large amounts of sugar in ones diet.
Can lead to arthritis as the excess fat could strain the joints and put pressure on it
Strokes - Fat builds up in the arteries and causes a blood clot, this stops blood from getting to the brain
High Blood Pressure
CURRENT RISKS
Having a high Blood Pressure can lead one to become dizzy or faint. This is because blood cannot move easily through the brain.
FUTURE RISKS
Having a high Blood Pressure can lead to heart disease. This is because arteries are narrowed and so blood has to pump harder to get to the brain
Kidney disease - Damaged kidney arteries will not filter the blood
Blindness - This is because blood clots affect the nerves behind the eyes
Low Peak Flow
CURRENT RISKS
having a low peak flow means that the airways are narrowed. This means that the lungs aren’t working as well as they should be.
It makes it harder for one to exercise as the lungs aren’t as strong and elastic and so will get easily out of breath and feel dizzy
FUTURE RISKS
Having a low peak flow means that the arteries are narrowed. This means the lungs aren’t working as well as they should be.
If exercise is not done due to reduced lung capacity it can mean fat could build up leading obesity and heart disease/ a stroke
Low Blood Pressure
CURRENT RISKS
dizziness
fainting or falls - as the blood is not pumped enough to the brain
Low BMI
CURRENT RISKS
The body is not getting enough nutrients, this can lead to tiredness due to a lack of iron
infections such as colds and flu’s because of a lack vitamin C
FUTURE RISKS
Undiagnosed illness such as an underactive thyroid because there is not enough hormones produced
An eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia.
weaker bones due to a lack of vitamin D
LOWER IS BETTER
Resting Pulse Rate
LOWER BP IS BETTER …
Because it means more blood is flowing 120/80 is good
