how do different diseases interact?
-Defective immune system => suffer more from infectious diseases.
-Viruses living in cells can be the trigger for cancers. (HPV)
-Immune reactions => trigger allergies (skin rashes and asthma.)
-Severe physical ill health can lead to depression and other mental illness.
what are risk factors of cardiovascular disease?
poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise, genetics, obesity
what is the effect of alcohol on the liver?
Long Term Alcohol Consumption in High Amounts will cause Cirrhosis (scarring)=> liver failure
what is the effect of alcohol on the brain?
it is a nervous system depressant
it can be a result of poor mental health and/or cause for poor mental health
how and why does smoking cause lung disease?
by destroying the alveoli as it contains many harmful chemicals like tar and CO
how and why can smoking cause diabetes?
chemicals harm body cells -> interfere with normal function -> inflammation -> decreases effectiveness of insulin
effect of smoking on unborn child
can cause low birth weight (especially if you are an older mother) because all the harmful chemicals reduce the baby’s O2 supply => slower development

can cause foetal alcohol syndrome (which is a group of physical and mental defects as a result of alcohol)
