Are products and services consumers to buy and use for health and treatment.
What are health services?
Refer to health information, actions, procedures, or work to satisfy a consumer’s needs and wants.
Consumer health education?
Assisting you to acquire correct information and understanding to make a wise decision about a certain health item.
Who is a consumer?
All of us are consumers because we buy and make use of different goods and services every day.
What is a consumer?
a person who is a purchaser or recipient of consumer products, services, or credits.
What does being a good consumer mean?
Being a good consumer means knowing what to look out for and what to avoid. It means knowing where and how to get the best value for money, where it goes if things go wrong.
What are the kinds of consumer?
> Spendthrift: spends money irresponsibly/ more than necessary
Close-Fisted: unwilling to spend money
Wasteful: wasting money
Bargain addict: consumer that only buys sale or bargain products. Negotiate prices
Intelligent: Spends money wisely
Panic buyer: Buying large quantities of products due to fears of shortage.
Impulsive buyer: The buying of goods without planning to do so in advance, as a result of a sudden whim or impulse.
What are the consumer rights?
1 Right to Basic Needs – which guarantees survival, adequate food, clothing, and other goods and services. With this right, consumers can look forward to the availability of basic and prime commodities at affordable prices and good quality.
2 Right to Safety—the consumer should be protected against the marketing of goods or the provision of services that are hazardous to health and life.
3 Right to Information—the consumer should be protected against dishonest or misleading advertising and has the right to be given the facts and information to make an informed choice.
4 Right to Choose—the consumer has the right to choose from among various products at competitive prices with an assurance of satisfactory quality.
5 Right to Representation—the right to express consumer interests in the making and execution of government policies.
6 Right to Redress— the right to be compensated for misrepresentation, shoddy goods or unsatisfactory services.
7 Right to Consumer Education – which is the right to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to be an informed customer.
8 Right to a Healthy Environment—the right to live and work in an environment which is neither threatening nor dangerous and which permits a life of dignity and well-being.
Complementary and Alternative medicines
- Traditional alternative medicine: mainstream and accepted forms of therapy.
- Body touch: Healing by touch is based on the idea that illness or injury in one area of the body can affect all parts of the body.

What do we have to remember as consumers?
- Get to know the products and services first
- Be meticulous with sales talk or marketing gimmicks
- Consult the authorities when in doubt
- Never sacrifice quality over quantity
- Consider the Safety, Environmental Impact, Quality, Price of products and services.
- Confirm credentials of health service providers.
- Understand the controversies over products that are not regulated by the FDA and different government agencies that protect the health and welfare of the consumers.
- Question everything and make sure everything is credible and reliable.
- Learn about counterfeit drugs to protect yourself from the consequences when filling a legal prescription.
- Never use your real name, phone number or other personal information in a public online location.
- Report the violations and quacks experience to your state’s health department.
