What is freedom?
Freedom is realized when a person does what is good.
What is license?
Doing whatever one pleases, even if it is evil.
What are the three traits of true freedom?
1.) Is always social and relational. (The welfare and good of others put the moral limit to our freedom)
2.) Exceptional sign of the divine image within a person. (Supreme, free, intelligent beings)
3.) Means to become a good person. (Becoming more others-centered, loving, and value oriented.)
What are the two threats to freedom?
External threats and internal threats.
What are the external threats?
It is directly or indirectly endangering our quest for inner freedom.
a. oppression
b. injustice
c. corruption
d. prejudice
What are the internal threats?
a. ignorance (in ignorance, we hurt ourselves and others)
b. passion or emotions (inner forces that affect us spiritually and physically in our actions)
c. habits (things we do spontaneously and without thinking)
What are the two types of habits and explain.
The two habits are Virtue and Vices.
Virtue: Good habits
Vices: directed toward immortal acts/Bad habits.
What does CCC1733 state?
The more one does what is good, the freer one becomes. There is no true freedom except in the service of what is good and just. The choice to disobey and do evil is an abuse of freedom and leads to “the slavery of sin.”
