What are the requirements for listing allergens on food packages?
A
Food companies are required to list, in plain language, any possible amount of:
- milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and soy

- qualified health claim (scientific evidence isn’t there)
- nutrient content claim (reduced fat)
- structure/function claim (antioxidants prevent cancer)

A
- when scientific evidence doesn’t meet the significant scientific agreement standard
- Ex: selenium and cancer; nuts and heart disease
