Health Belief Model Flashcards
Value expectancy theory
HBM is based on value, or the desire to avoid on this
And the belief that a specific health action would prevent illness, expectancy
Health belief model
Developed to understand why people did not seek out tuberculosis screening when it was available to them
Model assumes people will engage in a health behavior that they believe that doing so will reduce the fat that is both likely and would have severe consequences
Single most important predictor in HBM
Perceive to barriers, perceived benefits is second
Strengths of HBM
Simple
Can be combined with other theories or models
Limitations of HBM
There may be relationships and independence between constructs, making it difficult to combine with other theories or models
Relationships between constructs, should we use them together or separated?
Does not consider emotional component
Cues to action often not emphasized in research
