What is optimal health?
The balance of physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual health.
What are primary, secondary, and tertiary health prevention?
Primary - activities to prevent disease from occurring.
Secondary - activities to reduce disease impact (early detection/intervention)
Tertiary - managing the impact of ongoing disease
What are stress, distress, and eustress?
Stress is a physical, mental or emotional pressure or strain and may be a factor in disease causation or fatigue.
Eustress is a healthy experience associated with positive health, increased performance, human growth and learning.
Distress is a negative stress that degrades health and performance.
Discuss critical incidents in wellness programs
Critical incidents occur in all organizations, not but emergency and healthcare.
Management Programs Should:
1, Recognize the problem
2, Define critical incidents (death of client or colleague, violence)
3, Provide debriefings and counselling.

What is circadian rhythm?
Physical, mental and behavioural changes that follow a 24-hour cycle in response to light/dark.
What are some shift scheduling ideals to reduce the risk of fatigue?
Rotate schedules clockwise and slowly (early shifts, then day shifts, then evening shifts)
Avoid early start times of 5 or 6 am.
Allow rest periods of >24 hours after a set of night shifts.
