Differentiate system audits vs compliance audits
Systems audits review the safety system and are usually scored/graded.
Often performed due to a financial incentive, risk tolerance, or third party requirement.
Compliance audits review how the organization meets legal requirements. Pass/fail, no grade/score.
What is a perception survey and why is it useful in safety auditing?
A survey with mostly subjective questions based on individual’s perspectives.
Often useful to identify differences in perception between management and workers.
Differentiate audits vs inspections.
An audit is focused on the management systems. Audits address underlying causes of hazards.
Inspections focus on specific hazards. Inspections are about identifying, eliminating and controlling the specific hazards.
