Define Fitness
The ability to meet the demands of the environment.
Define Health
A complete state of physical, emotional and social well being. Not just merely the absence of disease and infirmity.
Define Exercise
An exercise that is taken that improves the health or fitness of the person taking part.
Define Performance
How well a task is performed.
Sedentary lifestyle
Someone who does no exercise or very little physical activity.
What are the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle?
Increases risk of developing heart conditions due to buildup of cholesterol in the arteries which increases blood pressure and the chance of having a heart attack
Osteoporosis may develop due to bones and joints becoming weak because of minimal physical activity which strengthens the body.
People who don’t exercise are more likely to become obese
List some of the Physical benefits of exercise
- Muscle Hypertrophy
- Improved body composition
- Reduced risk of cardiac disease and diabetes
- Lower resting heart rate
- Lower blood pressure
- Increased red blood cell count
- Increased oxygen levels within red blood cells

- Higher overall energy levels

- Meet new people and expand social circle
- Improve attitude towards competition and take victory or loss in a gracious manner
- Better your ability to work as a team and co-operate successfully with others
- Increase confidence when meeting new people for the first time
List some of the Emotional benefits of exercise
- Have fun and enjoy the sport you are participating in
- Boost confidence and self esteem
- Undertake psychological challenge and feel the rewards and benefits of completing a challenge
- Reduce stress and the likelihood of developing stress related illnesses
- Reduce the chance of developing depression
- Exercising while older reduces the chance of developing age related illness’s such as Alzheimer’s and dementia
