Effects of Exercise Flashcards

1
Q

Name a long term effect of exercise on the on the cardiovascular system.

A

More elasticated walls of the veins and arteries that allows for more blood and RBC containing oxygen to be supplied around the body to the working muscles to allow for increased effectiveness and efficiency in exercise. This increase in the ability for blood to move around the body also decreases the blood pressure of the person and shows the fitness gains that the cardiac muscles have made to “adapt to their environment” giving clear evidence that their fitness has improved

Q

Name a long term effect of exercise on the on the cardiovascular system.

A

A stronger heart allows for an increased volume of blood to be pumped around the body with RBC containing oxygen to be supplied to working muscles which helps the performance and efficiency of an athlete.

Q

Name a long term effect of exercise on the on the cardiovascular system.

A

The capillarization of alveoli allows for more efficient gas exchange and allows more oxygen into the blood and more oxygen to be supplied to the working muscles allowing for increased athletic performance. This also allows for increased efficiency of removing C02 and other waste products from the blood which improves the health of the athlete.

Q

Name a long term effect of exercise on the on the cardiovascular system.

A

A lower resting heart rate decreases the blood pressure of an athlete and this shows their heart is more efficient and strong meaning it can pump more much needed blood around the body. Allowing for more efficient blood and oxygen to be pumped around the body.

Q

Name a long term effect of exercise on the on the body.

A

Muscles hypertrophy is when muscles gain in size, strength, and efficiency because when muscles are worked they develop small tears and then they build up bigger and stronger each time they are broken down. When people’s muscles become bigger this is a show of muscles hypertrophy and their increase in size and strength.

Q

Name a short term effect of exercise.

Q

Name a short term effect of exercise.

A

Cardiac output temporarily increased as the demand for oxygen in the blood is higher within the body.

Q

How does smoking affect the body in the long term?

A

Smoking narrows the arteries and causes increased cholesterol buildup within the artery walls.

This causes blood distribution to be less efficient and people struggle to breathe properly and get required oxygen round to parts of the body.
