Q

rationale of the SDGS

A
  • b/c new goals were needed when Millennium development goals ended in 2015, MDGS made good progress in poverty, edu., health, hunger, and environment so needed something to continue making progress in these areas
  • b/c there were uneven progress across regions and countries e.g. ind. ppls. those who are most disadvantaged e.g. due to poverty, sex etc were left behind. hence still lots of work that needed to be done to close the gap and achieve prosperity for all
  • b/c new global challenges had emerged, e.g. env. changed (climate change), increase conflict, mass migration, ultimately these challenges had potential to ‘un-do’ the work.

Q

why is SDG 3 important?

A
  • bc millions of ppl die globally from mainly preventable causes: comm and non comm
  • bc MMR are high in many developing countries (often due to reduced access to adequate antenatal healthcare)
  • bc infant and child mortality rates are high in many developing countries –> many could be prevented w/ improved access to safe water etc
  • bc mental health conditions, road trauma and harmful substance use contribute significantly to the global BOD, especially in young ppl

Q

under nutrition

A

x enough food to meet their daily energy requirements = stunted growth and starvation

means they are also malnourished

17
Q

malnutrition

A

lack of specific nutrients required for the body to function effectively e.g. iron and vitiman C

  • ppl who are MN may not also be UN
18
Q

why is SDG 2 important

A
  • bc almost 800 million ppl are UN
  • bc 1/4 children have stunted growth
  • bc poor nutrition causes nearly 1/2 U5MR
  • bc agriculture is the largest employer in the world
19
Q

SDG 2 features

A

“to”
- end all forms of ML
- double agriculture productivity
- end hunger and ensure access to nutrition’s and specific food

20
Q

SDG4 features

A
  • all girls + boys complete free, quality primary and secondary education
  • increase the no. of ppl w/ skills for employment
    e.g. vocational skills = fishing/ making clothes
  • increase no. of qualified teachers
  • ensure all ppl have adequate numeracy and literacy skills
21
Q

why is SDG 4 important

A
  • bc 57 million children remain out of school
  • bc 50% of out of school children live in areas of conflict
  • bc 103 million youth lack basic literacy skills (60% of these are women)
