What Are the CDM Regulations?
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) are UK regulations aimed at improving health, safety, and welfare during construction projects. They apply to all construction work, including new builds, refurbishments, demolitions, and maintenance. The main objectives of CDM are to:
- Ensure safety is considered from the start to the finish of a project.
- Identify, eliminate, or control risks during design and construction stages.
- Clearly define roles and responsibilities for health and safety management.
Key Duty Holders under CDM 2015:
- Client: Ensures health and safety are considered throughout the project.
- Principal Designer: Coordinates health and safety during the design phase.
- Principal Contractor: Manages health and safety during the construction phase.
- Contractors: Ensure safe practices on-site.
- Workers: Take care of their own safety and others around them.

What is the purpose of Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulation 1992
The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 were introduced to ensure the safety and health of workers by providing guidelines for the proper use and provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the workplace. These regulations were updated in 2022 to extend responsibilities to all workers, including those on casual and zero-hours contracts.
- Protecting Workers:
