health and fitness Flashcards
what is Progression and Overload?
overload is simply working harder than normal however, progression refers to the fact that overload should gradually be increased as the body adapts and becomes more efficient
what is intensity?
refers to how hard you train
what does ‘SPORT’ stand for?
Specificity
Progressive
Overload
Reversibility
Tedium
what is frequency?
refers to how often someone trains
what is Specificity?
refers to the fact that training should be specific to the needs of an individual and the demands of the sport that they take part in
what is speed?
the max rate of which an individual is able to perform a movement, or cover a distance, in a period of time
what is explosive?
it’s sometimes called power and is a combination of strength x speed
what is agility?
the ability to move and change direction quickly while maintaining control
name the 5 components of health- related fitness?
flexibility
cardiovascular endurance
muscular strength
muscular endurance
body composition
what is dynamic?
repeated contractions applied to a moving object
what is cardiovascular endurance?
the ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles
what is muscular endurance?
the ability of a muscle or muscle group to undergo repeated contractions avoiding fatigue
what is type?
refers to the type of training used
what is body composition?
the percentage of body weight which is fat, muscle or bone
what is Tedium?
Tedium refers to boredom
what is reaction time?
the time taken to initiate a response to a stimulus
name a test for testing cardiovascular endurnace
multi- stage
what is flexibility?
the range of movement possible at a joint
What are the principles of overload?
FITT
Frequency
Intensity
Time
Type
what is balance?
the maintenance of the centre of mass over the base of support
what is health?
a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. All factors must be present to be regarded as ‘healthy’
what is power?
explosive strength or anaerobic power is the product of strength and speed (strength x speed)
what is co-ordination?
the ability to use different parts of the body together, smoothly and efficiently
what are the 6 components of skill- related fitness?
Agility
balance
coordination
power
speed
reaction time
what is fitness?
the ability to cope with everyday demands without suffering undue fatigue
what is time?
refers to how long you train for
what is muscular strength?
the ability to overcome a resistance
what is reversibility?
if a performer stops or reduces their training level, then fitness and performance are likely to drop
