What do you need to wear at the lab?
glasses, goggles, gloves, pants (not shorts or skirts above the knee), cloed shoes and Labcoat
what kind of consumption is forbidden in the lab?
eating, drinking and smoking
what happens with coat after lab?
stored in a bag
whats the take on contact lenes in lab?
PROHIBITED (fumes can dry up lenses)
how should your hair be?
tied up, not in contact with chemicals
how should your hands look?
no jewellery, no watch, clean and gloves
music in lab?
Prohibited
How should you handle glassware?
hold with both hands (not slip) never take up broken glass with hands, don´t throw in trash, could be resiue and cuts
What should each student know?
Where and how to operate first aid kit, fire extinguishers and emercency showers. MUST BE IN GOOD CONDITION
How to handle fumes and vapor?
DO NOT SMELL, open closed containers in hood, experiments that create fumes should be carried out in hood
Inform lab technician when…?
Spilled chemicals, fire, danger or accidents
beaker on fire, what to do?
cover outbreak with other beaker or damp cloth (small fire). If big fire, use extinguisher and or fireblankets. Large fire; evacuate, alert call fire department. Water on solid materials, not electrical or flammable liquids
What to do with leftover residue?
contact lab technician to neutralize. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN YOU NEED. Do not pour in sink
How to heat volatile flammable liquids?
Not in open containers or Bunsen Burners
How do you treat chemicals?
As poisons
