Healing and repair Flashcards
What are the stages after acute inflammation occurs?
Resolution Suppuration>discharge of pus Repair and organisation with discharge of pus Fibrosis Chronic inflammation
What is healing?
Restitution with no or minimal defect
When does repair occur?
Occurs where tissue loss has happened. It is healing by secondary intention.Often occurs by fibrosis formation where cells can not regenerate
What are the stages of repair by fibrosis?
Angiogenesis- noe blood vessel formation
Migration and proliferation of fibroblasts
Deposition of exracellular matrix
Remodelling - maturation and organisation of finbrous tissue
What are the local factors that influence wound healing?
Infection - delays healing
Mechanical factors - early motion delays healing
Foreign bodies
Size, locatio and type of wound - heal better if blood supply good
Systemic factors which affect healing
Nutrition - good diet promotes healing
Metabloc status - healing worse in diabetic patients
Circulatory status - good blood supply is a prerequisite
