Acute inflammation Flashcards
What maintains cell integrity?
DNA
Cell membrane
Energy production
Protein synthesis
Mechanisms of nuclear DNA damage
Silent injury DNA repair Dividing cells more susceptible Permanent cells more resistant Onn-lethal DNA dmage may be inherited by daughter cells
What is apoptosis?
Defence against inherited and damage= mediated by p53 protein
Mechanisms to disrupt memebrane integrity
Ion pumps fail
Disruppt membrane
Alter lipids
Crosslink membrane proteins
What are free radicals?
Are particularly superoxide which trigger a chain reaction leading to lipideroxidation.
-oxidants)Can be moped up by free radical scavengers 9anti=
What predicts severity of tissue injury?
Duration Nature Proportion of cells affected Regenerative capacity Topography
Give examples of non–lethal injury
Hydropic change
Fatty change
Membrane shedding
Types of cell death
Apoptosis
Necrosis
What is apoptosis?
Individual cell deletion which can be a normal or pathological event. It is in inherent cellular property that can be activated or prevented by specific signals. Reduced apoptosis leads to cell accumulataion and increased poptosis leads to cell loss.
What is necrosis? What are the patterns of necrosis?
Pathological cell death. Patterns are: Coagulative Colliquative Caseous Gangrenous Fibrinoid Fat necrosis
