Healing Flashcards

1
Q

Explain the Biblical basis for healing and its relationship to the redemptive work of Christ.

A

Healing was a HUGE part of Jesus’ ministry.

Physical healing is in some way found in the atonement of Christ. Jesus died for our sins and all that sin brings. Namely, sickness and death.

We affirm divine healing and the gift of healing. However, we reject faith healing and faith healers. While God may choose to heal, His choice is within His will.

Matthew 4:23-25
He healed ALL who came to him

Isaiah 53 / Matthew 8:17
Healing from the problems of sin/physical healing

Matthew 9
Jesus healed the paralytic because his sins were forgiven

John 9
The man was born blind to display the glory of God, and NOT because of sin

James 5:13-16
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
