healing Flashcards
how does skin heal a superficial wound
basal cells move across gap and multiply
3 phases of deep wound healing
inflammatory phase
proliferative phase
remodelling phase
describe inflammatory phase wound healing
leukocytes clean up microbes, foreign/dead tissues
blood clot forms - becomes scab
epithelial cells repair basement membrane
describe proliferative phase wound healing
granulation tissue formed, made up of BVs/collagen
differentiation/repair of epithelial cells
describe remodelling phase wound healing
scab sloughs off
scar tissue remains
what is scar
fibrous connective tissue
characteristics of scar
denser collagen fibres
less elasticity
fewer hairs, glands, nerve endings, BVs
2 types scar
Hypertrophic - stays in boundary of wound
keloid - larger than wound, raised, red
