Cervix
The lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Expands 4 inches (10 centimeters) during childbirth
Vagina
A tube that connects the uterus to the outside of the body. Entrance is on the outside of the body
Ovaries
There are two ovaries, one on either side of the uterus. Help produce eggs and hormones such as estrogen and progesterone
Uterus
The uterus is where the fetus grows. It is a hollow, pear-shaped organ with a muscular wall.
Fallopian Tubes
Go from the uterus to the ovaries. During ovulation, the ovary releases an egg into the fallopian tube.
What does the female reproductive system do?
- Produces eggs (ova)
- Have sexual intercourse
- Protect and nourish a fertilized egg until fully developed
- Give birth
Scrotum
Hangs under the penis - contains the testicles and epididymis
Penis
Mad of two parts - shaft and the glans (main and tip). Delivers sperm
Testicles
The two testicles produce sperm and the male sex hormone testosterone
What does the male reproductive system do?
The male sex organs work together to produce and release semen into the female reproductive system during sexual intercourse
Reproductive System
2 kinds of sex cells (males and females) meet in the females body (sperm and egg) to create a new being
