Head Injury Patients Flashcards
1
Q
Intracranial Pressure (ICP) normal values
A
2
Q
ICP implications
A
Raised ICP can cause secondary brain injury by impairing CPP
CPP should be kept >60mmHg to perfuse brain
3
Q
Cerebral Perfusion Pressure (CPP) normal values
A
> 70mmHg
4
Q
CPP implications
A
CPP should be kept >60mmHg to perfuse brain
Usage of lignocaine prior to suction is required
Avoid head down tilt
Keep head neutral - avoid turning that may obstruct drainage from brain
Cease treatment of ICP continues to increase with intervention and CPP
5
Q
Mean Arteriole Blood Pressure (MABP)
A
MAP = DBP + 1/3 (SBP - DBP)
