Head and neck Flashcards
Inner ear: arterial supply
Internal auditory artery
Internal auditory artery branches to form common cochlear and vestibular
Internal auditory usually a branch of basilar artery
Inner ear contents
Tympanic cavity
Bony labyrinth
Membranous labyrinth
Auditory ear
Connects nasopharynx with tympanic cavity
Normally closed, lumen opens when tensor veli palatine contracts
Sensory via glossopharyngeal
Middle ear: arterial supply
Anterior tympanic artery form first part of maxillary
Contributions form ascending pharyngeal, middle meningeal, posterior auricular, artery of pterygoid canal and caroticotympanic branch of internal carotid
Chords tympani
Crosses medial surface of tympanic membrane and handle of the malleus
Leaves tympanic cavity via petrotympanic fissure
Joins lingual nerve
External auditory meatus
2.5cm long
Mainly auriculo-temporal form CNV3 and auricular branches form facial nerve and vagus
Tympanic membrane
8mm in diameter
Chorda tympani across medial surface
Malleus attached to inner surface, lateral; auriculotemporal nerve and auricular branch of vagus. Medial; tympanic branches of glossopharyngeal nerve
External ear- auricle
Elastic cartilage
Muscle of facial expression but vestigial in humans
Lymph to parotid and cervical lymph nodes
Divisions of the ear
External- auricle, external auditory meatus, external surface of tympanic membrane
Middle- internal surface of the tympanic membrane, tympanic cavity, ossicles, pharyngotympanic tube
Internal(inner)- auditory apparatus, vestibular apparatus, internal auditory meatus, vestibulocochlear nerve, oval windows, round windows
Larynx lymph
Superior deep cervical and inferior
Pharynx divisions
Nasopharynx
Oropharynx
Larynopharynx
Teeth nerve supply
Upper teeth- superior alveolar nerve
Lower teeth- dental branches of inferior alveolar nerve
Hard palate- nerves and vessels
Greater and lesser palatine nerves and arteries
Nasopalatine nerve
Maxillary artery
Salivary glands
Submandibular- Facial nerve
Parotid- glossopharyngeal nerve
Sublingual- facial nerve
Blood supply of tongue
Genioglossus- sublingual artery and vein
Hyoglossus- lingual artery and vein
Styloglossus- dorsal lingual arteries ad vein
