professionals have to demonstrate these in order to qualify or register with the HCPC. a way of checking practitioners character traits to check on suitability for the role. a way of logging health issues that are likely to arise

what is fit to practise
have the skills, knowledge, character and health they need to practice the profession safely and effectively

why must practitioners be on the register
shows that you meet the standards of the profession. we have a register to show the public that professionals are fit to practice
how do you qualify to be on the register
- completing an approved programme does not guarantee a spot on the register
- it does show that you meet the professional standards needed and therefore makes people eligible to apply
- must send a health declaration, character reference, photograph and relevant ID
what are the standards for psychologists
1- be able to practice safely and effectively within their scope of practice
2- be able to practice within the legal and ethical boundaries of their profession
3- be able to maintain fitness of practice
4- be able to practice as an autonomous professional, exercising their own professional judgement
5- be aware of the impact of culture, equality and diversity on practice
6- be able to practice in a non-discriminatory manner
7- understand the importance of and be able to maintain confidentiality
8- be able to communicate effectively
9- be able to work appropriately with others
10- be able to maintain records appropriately
