The term “survivor” captures for some the ability to take back their lives after treatment and hospitalizations that have been traumatizing.
What is an ex-patient?
The term “ex-patient” is usually anti-psychiatry and describes someone who opposes traditional mental health treatment.

What are NAMI’s history and role?

NAMI has worked hard to become more inclusive; approximately 30% of NAMI members are adults who use mental health services.
Tell me more about the goals of NAMI.
NAMI’s stated goal is to advocate for improved services for families, children, and adults. NAMI has been very effective in fighting stigma, providing education, and in legislative advocacy. NAMI supports peer counseling and peer centers, and in most areas, provides peer and parent support groups.
