What are hormones?
- A chemical secreted by an endocrine gland that signals a system to do something
- Pituitary gland is called the “master gland” but needs feedback from the hypothalamus
Endocrine Glands?
- Pineal gland
- Hypothalamus

- Parathyroid gland
- Thymus
- Adrenal glands

- Ovary (female)
- Testis (male)
Exocrine glands?
- Sweat gland
- Mammary gland
- Salivary glands
- Oil glands
How do feed back loops help regulate the action of hormones?
- When hormones are to above normal feedback loops reduce their levels
- When hormones are below normal feedbacks loops increase their levels
How can too little or too much of a hormone lead to disease?
Hormone Problems w/ levels Resulting Disease
Insulin Too Low. Type 1 Diabetes
(High blood sugar)
Growth Too high. Acromegaly
Hormone (Excess growth)
T3/T4. Too High. Hyperthyroidism
(High metabolism)
Cortisol. Too Low Addison’s Disease
(Weakness, etc.)
