All requests for HAZMAT assistance outside of Payne County requires the approval of:
the Assistant Chief or the Fire Chief before the response is undertaken.
Outside of Payne County, the requesting community shall provide as a minimum:
one engine company, one incident commander, one EMS unit, and one local law enforcement officer at the scene.
For regional response to hazmat, the Stillwater Fire Department shall respond no less than:
6 trained HAZMAT personnel with no less than 4 technicians and one chief officer.
What incidents will the hazmat team automatically respond to?
All natural gas releases, which involve confined spaces (warehouses, Buildings, (etc.)
All Flammable gas, Poison gas, or corrosive gas situations involving containers, packages, vehicles or bulk storage tanks.
All flammable, combustible, corrosive liquid situations involving containers, packages, transportation vehicles or bulk storage vessels.
All vehicle accidents where there is 25 gallons or more of hazardous fluids that has been released. (per Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality).
What are the exclusionary criteria for hazmat pre entrance monitoring
- Respiratory rate more than 24 bpm
- Temperature greater than 99.5 orally, 100.5 core, or less than 97 orally, 98 core
- EKG- dysrhythmia not previously detected
- Skin evaluation, open sores, rashes, sunburn
- Any recent medical history including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, upper respiratory infection, heat illness, heavy alcohol intake, new prescription medication within 72 hours, OTC medication within 72 hours, any alcohol within the last 12 hours, pregnancy.
Signs/symptoms that require immediate transport to medical facility when found post entry medical monitoring?
- Increase in pulse greater than 20 beats per minute.
- A temperature greater than 101° F (oral) or 102° F (core).
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
- Altered mental status.
- Respiratory, cardiac, or dermatological complaints.
- Systolic blood pressure decrease by 20mm of Hg at two minutes standing.
Inspections and pressure tests of Level A?
- Visual inspection once a month and after each use
- Pressure test annually recorded in suit log
