Hazards Flashcards
What should you do 1st before practicing slow flight?

Lookout
Only look at instruments during slow flight, true or false
False, focus on instruments and outside references.
When in slow flight pitching up will cause
Decrease in airspeed and loss of altitude
When does slow flight naturally occur
Immediately after liftoff during takeoff
During the flare for landing
Slow flight entry procedure
1) Complete HASEL check
2) Reduce power to 1500rpm
3) slowly pitch up to maintain altitude
4) Extend flaps below Vfe T/O and again below Vfe Ldg
5) once desired airspeed is reached, add power to stay level
Slow flight Recovery procedure
1) Apply full power and correct adverse yaw
2) Lower nose to cruise attitude and maintain altitude
3) Retract flaps in stages as speed increases
4) re-establish normal cruise flight and re-trim.
Common symptoms of slow flight
Poor control response
Airframe Buffeting
High nose up attitude
High engine rpm and noise
Constant stall warning
Low airspeed
Hazards of slow flight
Poor control response
High risk of stall or spin
Potential engine overheating
Poor forward visibility
When is a HASEL check required
Prior to any exercise that may result in significant loss of altitude
