Fertilisation
When both nucleus of egg and sperm cells join
Define copulation
Sperm from penis ejaculated into vagina
Implantation
Embryo embedded in wall. When completely embedded it is called implantation.
Cell division - define
After 24 hours of fertilisation the egg divides into 2 and after 4 days it divides into 32 cells

What happens after 1 month
Embryo is 6mm long and has just developed his brain, eyes, heart ears and legs
9 weeks
Embryo is completely formed and is now called a foetus
3 months
Foetus is 54mm long; now really looks like a baby
5 months
160mm + has fe eloped finger nails and it kicks
7 months
Foetus is big and viable
Viable means that is would be fine if it was born then
39 weeks
Baby is fully developed and ready to be born
Define the placenta
It allows the mother to give food, oxygen and wastes the baby Cigarette smoke (wasted)
Define the amnion bag
There is a fluid in the amnion bag which is called amniotic fluid: this helps to act as a shock absorber
What does the umbilical cord do
Transfers food, oxygen and waste from the placenta !
