Harvey believed that blood was circulated by the heart. He also believed that there was one type of blood and that it is blue until it mixes with oxygen and turns red.

This was controversial because it went against Claudius Galen who thought that blood was made in the liver then used up like fuel. Galen believed there was two types of blood - blue blood and red blood.

Overall people reacted negatively as they are still trusting the work of Galen
