Which main diseases of the lung may result in a mix of restrictive, ,obstructive, and pulmonary vascular disease problems?
Infective and neoplastic processes.
The cardinal symptoms of respiratory disease are?
- Dyspnea.

Pain in the chest means what regarding respiratory disorders?
Usually result from either diseases of the parietal pleura (eg pneumothorax) or pulmonary vascular diseases (eg pulmonary HTN).
Lung parenchyma is NOT innervated with pain fibers.
Rhonchi are?
A manifestation of obstruction of MEDIUM sized airways, most often with secretions.
Acute/Chronic rhonchi means?
Acute –> Sign of viral or bacterial bronchitis.
Chronic –> Bronchiectasis or COPD.
Crackles may also be seen in?
IPF –> Like Velcro sounding.
How to distinguish between crackles of interstitial fibrosis from crackles of alveolar fluid?
To assess egophony.
Cor pulmonale will give what heart sounds?
- RV heave.
- Prominent P2 component.
- S4.
Symmetric and asymmetric pedal edema as a sign of respiratory disorder?
Symmetric –> May suggest cor pulmonale.
Asymmetric –> May be DVT and PE.
The majority of the respiratory system fall into one of 3 major categories?
- Obstructive lung diseases.
- Restrictive disorders.
- Abnormalities of the vasculature.
