Dans son discours, l’ancien président a fustigé la loi de réduction de l’inflation du président américain Joe Biden. L’IRA est un programme d’incitation de plusieurs milliards de dollars pour le développement d’entreprises et d’infrastructures vertes. Le problème pour le Canada et son gouvernement fédéral est essentiellement que sa politique industrielle ou son plan de développement économique est basé sur ce que font actuellement les États-Unis. L’IRA est la raison pour laquelle le gouvernement fédéral et certaines provinces, principalement l’Ontario, ont investi des milliards de dollars de l’argent des contribuables dans des usines de batteries et de chaînes d’approvisionnement pour véhicules électriques. Nos propres obligations en matière de véhicules électriques devaient être mises en œuvre en collaboration avec nos voisins du sud de la frontière.
