A

POINT: A criticism that has been made of Harlow’s study is that the two ‘mothers’ varied in more ways than being cloth-covered or not.
EXPLAIN: Head was very different so confounding variables because it may have preferred the cloth monkey because it was more attractive.

Q

issue with generalising the results of Harlow’s research to humans.

A

POINT: May be an issue generalising study.
EVIDENCE: Humans differ from monkeys in important ways. However observations made of animal attachment behaviours are mirrored in studies of humans. For example, Harlow’s research is in line with Schaffer & Emerson’s (1964)
findings that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them.
END: good starting pint but need more confo by looking into other human research

Q

massive important applications in numerous contexts

A

POINT: insight into attachment from Harlow’s research has had massive
important applications in numerous contexts.
EVIDENCE: helped social workers understand risk factors in child like neglect and abuse and can prevent it and more care for monkeys
END: external validity can be applied to practical settings to improve quality of life for infants

Q

ethical issues

A

POINT: criticised for its ethical issue
EXPLAIN: monkey had negative effects poor relationships with monkeys ;long lasting aggressive behaviour
END: not ethical and right even though we got research out of him

COUNTERARGUMENT: was needed since findings were significant and helps prevent this from happening to analyse and helps understand the importance of care
