What is ROM?
ROM is memory that cannot be changed by a program or user. ROM retains its memory even after the computer is turned off. For example, ROM stores the instructions for the computer to start up when it is turned on again.
What is RAM?
RAM is a fast temporary type of memory in which programs, applications and data are stored. Here are some examples of what’s stored in RAM:
the operating system
applications
the graphical user interface (GUI)
Which is not volatile RAM or ROM?
ROM
What is flash memory?
Flash memory is an electronic non volatile computer storage medium that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed. It is made up of chips.
What are examples of optical storage mediums?
CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays
What are examples of magnetic storage mediums?
Hard drives
What are examples of flash based storage mediums?
USB Drives, Solid State Hard drives, SD Cards
What is memory measured in?
Anything from Bites , Kilobytes , Megabytes, Gigabytes TerraBytes
What is the difference between ROM and RAM?
RAM is computer memory which loses its data when the computer is switched off.
ROM is computer memory which retains its data, even when the computer is switched off.
What does a byte consist of?
An 8 digit long number consisting of only 1’s and 0’s
What is the main memory also known as?
It is also known as primary memory or immediate access store.
