there are 27 bones
- 8 carpal bones in the wrist
- 5 metacarpals giving structure to the palm
- 14 phalanges forming the fingers for fine movements

what are intrinsic muscles
these are muscles that originate in the hand and control fine movement. they are broken into hypothenar and thenar muscles
what are extrinsic muscles
these are muscles that originate in the forearm and inert into the hand providing the grip strength an finger movement `
what are the thenar muscles
these include the
- OP
- FPB
- APL
what are the thenar muscles
the thenar muscles include
- ODM
- ADM
- FDMB
what is the role of the lumbricals
they flex the MCP joints and extend the IP joints of the 2nd, 3rd and 5th fingers
what is the role of the dorsal interossei
abduct the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers
what is the role of the palmar interossei
adduct the 2nd, 4th and 5th fingers
what are the nerves in the hand
radial, median and ulnar
where does the nerve supply sensation to in the hand
Median Nerve: Provides sensation to the thumb, index, middle, and half of the ring finger.
Ulnar Nerve: Supplies the little and ring fingers.
Radial Nerve: Controls wrist and finger extensors (on the dorsal side)
