Hand Flashcards

1
Q

carpometacarpal joint

A

articulation between distal row of carpal bones and the base of the medial four MCs

irregular joint line
primarily synovial plane joint

joint capsule attachtes to articular margins and lined in synovial membrane strenthened by palamr and dorsal carpometacarpal ligaments and a interosseous ligament.

small gliding movements 5MT and hamate most significant during opposition

Q

carpometacarpal joint of the thumb

A

a biaxial synovial saddle joint

trapezium to the base of 1st MT
covered in hyaline cartilage

loose strong capsule attached to articular margins and is lined by synovial membrane strengthened by the radial carpometacarpal ligament, anteriorly and posteriorly strengthened by palamr and dorsal oblique ligaments

tension of ligaments causes opposition

Q

Metacarpophalangeal Joint

A

biaxial ellipsoid joints

rounded head of MC to the concave base od the proximal phalanx
covered in hyaline cartilage
fibrocartilaginous plate- palmar ligament

loose fibrous capsule surronds the joint
lined by synovial membrane
strengthened by palmar ligament and colleteral ligaments

Deep transverse metacarpal ligament

Q

interphalangeal Joint

A

uniaxial synovial hinge joint

thumb-IP
Fingers- PIP DIP

base of proximal/middle phalanx -head of middle/distal phalanx
covered of hyaline cartilage
fibrocartilaginous plate- palmar ligament acts as mobile articular surface

Fibrous capsule surrounds joint lined by synovial membrrane
strengthen by collateral and palmar ligaments and extensor tendons
