  • Anglicans -> 9 bishops led by Whitgrit and Richard Bancroft.
    -> supported by 5 deans.
  • Puritans -> represented by Lancelot Andrews, Lawrence Chadderton, John Knewstubbs and Thomas Sparke (who said nothing).

Hampton Court Reforms:

A
  • A preaching minister for every parish.
  • Pluralism limited.
  • Court of high commission reformed.
  • Bishops had less power to dismiss ministers.
  • 39 articles to be explained fully.
  • New translation of the bible
    -> King James Bible 1611.

Richard Bancroft, 1604 - 1610.

A
  • 1604 canons (laws).
    -> wearing surplice.
    -> accepting 39 articles.
    -> use of sign of cross in baptism.
  • The puritans wouldn’t have liked this, but they would have liked the fact they had until November 1604.
