Q

What can you predict if there are lots of nuclei?

A

you can predict how many will have decayed in a given time based on the half-life of the source.

Q

What is Activity? And what is it measured in?

A

the rate at which a source decays. It is measured in becquerels, Bq.

9
Q

What is a Short half life?

A

means activity falls quickly, because the nuclei are very unstable and rapidly decay.
Dangerous at start but quickly become safe.

Q

What is a Long half life?

A

means activity falls more slowly because most of the nuclei don’t decay for a long time.
Dangerous because nearby areas are exposed to radiation for years.
