Distance, Displacement, Speed and Velocity Flashcards
1
Q
What is a Vector Quantity?
A
Quantities with Magnitude and Direction.
2
Q
What is a Scalar Quantity?
A
Quantities with Magnitude but no direction.
3
Q
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
A
Velocity is a vector, but speed is a scalar quantity. So even if speed of two things are the same, the velocity can be different depending on the direction.
4
Q
What is the difference between displacement and distance?
A
Distance is just how far an object has moved. It’s a scalar quantity so it doesn’t involve direction.
5
Q
What is the formula for Distance for an object travelling at a constant speed?
A
Distance travelled = Speed * Time.
6
Q
What is the speed of sound waves in air?
A
330 m/s
