Haematopoetic and Lymphoreticular systems Flashcards
Unique feature of Camelid erythrocytes
Oval shaped vs the ellipse in other mammals
Smaller size and shape mean higher overall numbers but lower PCV
Oriented with the long axis in the direction of bloodflow - easier to traverse small capillaries when blood viscosity is incr in times of dehydration
Camelied MCV and MCHC compared with cattle/horses
Lower MCV - camelids have smaller eryrthrocytes vs other species
Higher MCHC - camelids have higher haemoglobin concentraions
Features of camelid leucocyte count
Significantly higher than other species (approx 9-22x10’9/L) with similar neutrophil:lymphocyte ratios
T and B-cell lymphocytes
Simply - T cell lymphocytes are involved in cellular immunity and B-cells in humoral response
2 broad causes of regenerative anaemia
Haemorrhage
Haemolysis
