Endocrine (brief) Flashcards
Pituitary hormones
Anterior pituitary produces 7: LH, FSH, GH, TSH, ACTH, B-endorphin, prolactin
Posterior pituitary: develops from an extension of the hypothalamus so incapable of producing hormones but stores 2; oxytocine and vasopressin (ADH/AVP)

3 parts of the anterior pituitary
Pars distalis
Pars intermedia (closest to the posterior lobe/pars nervosa)
Pars tuberalis
Thyroid location
Dorsaolateral surface of the trachea
Thyroid blood supply
Predominantly cranial thyroid artery, a branch of the carotid
Smaller subsiduary from caudal thyroid artery
Endocrine and exocrine functions of the pancreas
Endocrine - islets of langerhans. B cells produce insulin, alpha cells glucagon
Exocrine - digestive enzymes incl CCK secreted into duodenum via pancreatic duct - > major duodenal papilla with the common bile duct (some species variation)
