Blood results in antiphospholipid syndrome
paradoxically prolonged APTT
low platelets
vWD blood results
Prolonged APTT
Normal platelets
Normal Factor VIII activity
Iron studies in iron-deficiency anaemia
Low ferritin
Low iron
Low transferrin saturation
High TIBC
Most reliable indicator of leukaemia on bloods
Cytopenias - leucocytosis may be mild
First investigation in over 40 with thrombocytosis
Chest X-ray
When to stop iron supplementation once bloods normalise
Continue for 3 months then stop and re-check 3-monthly for 1 year

Same is true for any cause of asplenia/splenic dysfunction and also CKD
Anti-platelets and dental work
continue as normal
Blood monitoring in IDA

Then 3-monthly for a year
Then 6-monthly for 2-3 years
Continue iron for 2-3 months post normalisation
