What is Habitus?
Habitus refers to deep rooted dispositions shaped by social background ,effecting behaviour. Deeply ingrained habits, skills, and dispositions that individuals acquire through their life experiences.
Habitus shapes how people see the world and their place in it.
What is symbolic capital?
symbolic capital refers to the prestige recognition and status that individuals gain from adhering to to the dominant cultural norms
What is symbolic violence?
Symbolic violence refers to the imposition of these norms by dominant social groups, which marginalise those who do not conform, particularly the working class.
What are Nike identities?
Nike identities are a form of resistance by working class students against the middle class values in school.
How do the middle class have symbolic capital?
Middle class students possess habitus that aligns more closely with the values of educational institutions, giving them symbolic capital. This means their ways of speaking pf speaking , dressing and interacting are rewarding in schools, leading t more academic success.
