when would you preform a urine dip?
always preform a urine dip on individuals with pain and bleeding to exclude haematuria and infection
when is a high vaginal swab used vs endocervical swab?
high vaginal swab= used for candida
endocervical swab= used to exclude chlamydia and gonorrhoea
what is colposcopy used for?
to remove abnormal areas of the cervix using laser
what is hyteroscopy used for?
endoscope inserted through the uterine cervix to inspect the uterine cavity-> gold standard for abnormal uterine bleeding, preformed in theatre under general anasthetic
used to identify:
- endometrial polyps
- submucosal fibroids
- endometrial carcinoma
what are complications of hysterocopy?
- infection and gas embolisation
what is a pipelle biopsy and what is it used for?
- used to diagnose cause of abnormal uterine bleeding
- insert plastic tube transcervically, removing the tube will suck a sample of the endometrium using negative pressure
endometrial ablation?
daycare procedure where endometrium is destroyed using laser.
conceiving after this is unlikely and if you do it can lead to complications such as miscarriage
