A
autoimmune disorder where the myelin sheath is destroyed by autoantibodies

Causes of GB
A
days to weeks after a viral infection
- can be from campylobacter bacteria (rare)
- GI infx
- flu vax
- post-surgical

CM of GB
A
weak/tingle in lower extremities
- severity inc over hours or weeks
- paraplegia then respiratory insufficiency
- uncoor mvt, prob walking, numbness and dec sensation, incontinent, blurry vision, prob with swallow, breath, chewing (asp risk)

How do GB symptoms progress
A
sx ascend and recovery descends

Biggest concern with GB
A
respiratory problems

Recovery with GB
A
can be slow or quicker

Early sign of GB
A
Blurry vision

Tx for GB
A
- no cure
- acute tx is steroids titrated down
- high dose IVIG to dec severity
- dec severity and inc recovery
- most get back to baseline
