Causes of GB

A

days to weeks after a viral infection
- can be from campylobacter bacteria (rare)
- GI infx
- flu vax
- post-surgical

CM of GB

A

weak/tingle in lower extremities
- severity inc over hours or weeks
- paraplegia then respiratory insufficiency
- uncoor mvt, prob walking, numbness and dec sensation, incontinent, blurry vision, prob with swallow, breath, chewing (asp risk)

Tx for GB

A
  • no cure
  • acute tx is steroids titrated down
  • high dose IVIG to dec severity
  • dec severity and inc recovery
  • most get back to baseline
