What is GBS?
A
inflammatory demyelinating ascending polyneuropathy affecting PNS Schwann cells, typically after GI or respiratory infection

What causes GBS?
A
campylobacter jejuni, cytomegalovirus, mycoplasma

How does GBS present?
A
ascending muscle weakness, paraesthesia, lost reflexes, autonomic features (sweating, raised pulse, BP change), neuropathic pain

How to diagnose GBS?
A
NCS (reduced signal), lumbar puncture (raised protein in CSF)

How to manage GBS?
A
IV immunoglobulins, plasma exchange
