What was the original target audience for the PA guidelines?
Adults and patients with specific cardiovascular disease

What is the recommended time adults should aim for in regards to PA?
Two and a half hour (150 minutes) of moderate intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week.
What is the recommended time children under 5 should aim for in regards to PA?
Three hours per day of a variety of different physical activities.
What is the recommended time children and young people (5-18) should aim for in regards to PA?
At least 60 minutes per day across the week.
What is the recommended time pregnant women/women after childbirth should aim for in regards to PA?
150 minutes of moderate intensity activity every week.
What is the recommended time disabled adults should aim for in regards to PA?
No specific time - just encouragement of PA daily
What is physical inactivity a major contribution towards?
• Physical inactivity is a major contribution to the growing global burden of noncommunicable diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, depression and diabetes.
What may be a better perspective of PA messaging?
Evidence from a review suggest mental health benefits frequently focused on may be more beneficial than physical health benefits for physical activity messages.
What should PA messages be?
They should be gain framed, should highlight short-term outcomes (specifically relating to social and mental health), message content should be tailored targeted, and formative research, psychological theory and/or social marketing principles should be used in message development.
When are physical activity messages more promising?
Messages are more promising when grounded in psychological theory
Why might promoting PA with only long-term benefits may not appeal to the public?
They may not appeal due to the fact they are not gaining anything from being physically active - nothing instant.
What short-term benefits are particularly important in the appeal to increase physical activity?
Mental and social benefits
