Q

guerrilla leader upon being encircled has three possibilities for
survival.

A

(a) Plan and execute a breakout at the earliest opportunity. This is usually the
most feasible course of action for him but if it becomes evident that it will fail, he
divides his force into small units to exfiltrate through the enemy cordon to pre
selected assembly areas.
(b) Dissolve his units and disappear on an individual basis abandoning much
of his equipment and supplies in order to survive and fight again. The guerrilla
leader may be forced to adopt this course of action. It may, however, result in loss
of valuable documents and equipment and may lead to the loss of his organization
which has to be rebuilt.
(c) Hold his force together and organize the strongest possible perimeter
defense. This is the least likely course of action for obvious reasons.
