World Bank: What do they do?
Provide money to countries, mainly in Europe, who needed to rebuild after the war.
Focuses on development and reducing poverty.
Provides funding and resources for LICs.
Issue bonds to get their funding.
Negative for the World Bank:
Criticised for not directly addressing specific economic issues within a country.
Ignoring environmental and social impacts with some of its projects.
Aims of IMF
Ensure exchange rates stayed stable to encourage global trade.
What do the IMF do?
Oversee exchange rates.
Provide short term loans to countries struggling to pay there debts.
Regulate global economy.
$675 billion in quotas from member countries.
Negatives of IMF:
Criticised for funding not directly addressing specific economic issues within a country.
