A
  • caused banking crisis. German banks lost so much money that German people feared they wouldn’t have access to the money in their banks.
  • People rushed to the banks to get their money out- this caused banks to run pout of money. This meant that people lost their savings.
  • Caused a general economic collapse because to pay out the demands by their account holders German and American bank needed cash.
  • These banks demanded the money bank causing German industries and farming to cut back on production.

How were people unemployed?

A

When banks demand their money back German industries and farmer had to close. This made the workers unemployed
-They economic crisis was world wide. German companies sold their goods abroad found the sakes fell. they made more people employed.
German workers that were unemployed were poorer, thy couldn’t afford to buy a s much.. This meant that sales fell further.

A

Unemployment- As the number of people out of work grew, the government became unable to supply unemployment benefits. Taxes were raised and unemployment benefits were cut, causing more problems for the unemployed

A

Savers- People had savings invested in shares. When share prices crashed, the value of their savings drop. This meant that they had no savings to fall back on.

How did the government fail to deal with unemployment?

A

The Weimar government failed. From 19030-1932 the president was Heinrich Bruning. He proposed higher taxes to pay for the unemployment benefit. Then he put fixed time limits on unemployment benefits to make payments affordable
-This pleased none, right winged didn’t like higher taxes a d the left wing opposed reducing benefits, May people didn’t want to support the government.

A

As Germany’s social and political problems increased so di the support for the German communist party. Support for the KPD was strong due to :
1) Growing unemployment
2) Falling wages
Many working people saw the communist as the only to defend their job and their wages.
However support for the Nazi grew faster. Fear of communism became a reason for the support of the NSDAP.

A

-Germans were fed up of Weimar government. Thought it was weak and saw Hitler and Nazi as an alternative.
Saw Hitler as a strong leader and was very popular.
Nazi had support from wealthy businessmen, this provided them with vital funding for the cost of propaganda.

To attract the working class the Nazis included work and bread on their posters. However more workers preferred the communists.

A

In 1928 the Nazi policy of confiscating land changed to only confiscating it off Jews. This reassured the farmers, hope Hitler would protect them from communist parties. This means that the farmers had strong section of the votes towards the Nazi.
