Growth and Development Flashcards
Piaget’s theory of cognitive development
Sensorimotor stage - birth to 2 years
Preoperational stage - 2 to 7 years
Concrete operational - 7 to 11 years
Formal operational - 11 years to adulthood
The sensorimotor stage is when the individual imagines and solves problems through senses and movement. They are learning about reality and its functionality.
The preoperational stage is when the child is egocentric and can think in terms of past, present, and future.
The concrete operational stage is when the child can sort and classify facts and develop abstract thinking.
The formal operational stage is when the individual increases their ability to think abstractly and logically. Logical problem-solving improves during this stage.
